3 Reasons Your Dental Clinic Can’t Attract and Retain Top Talent

3 Reasons Your Dental Clinic Can’t Attract and Retain Top Talent

The people you recruit for your clinic will have a big influence on its future. Hire the wrong people, and you could end up with a lawsuit on your hands, missing or damaged property, inconsistent service, and much more. You might have the best of intentions and a great work ethic, but if you have bad employees, it will reflect on you and your brand. Finding and keeping great employees can be tough in this business, however. Let’s take a look at a few reasons why many dental clinics are not able to do so.

You’re Looking in the Wrong Places

First of all, we would suggest that you concentrate your search on specialised sites when looking for talent for your dental clinic. You can and should post on generalist sites as well, but specialised sites attract people who want to work in the dental industry specifically, so they will usually be more qualified and more motivated. There are plenty of sites with top candidates for dental jobs, so, we would suggest you check out as many of them as you can. This will allow you to gather a pool of candidates who will be eager to work in the field.

You’re Not Treating Them Right

You might have an idea of what industry-standard means when it comes to benefits packages, but these standards might be outdated. You need to look at what others are doing in your space and make sure you are competitive. You also need to adapt yourself to a new crop of applicants who may be looking for different things from a job. More people nowadays want opportunities to grow in their role, so you will need to start looking at learning and development opportunities. Flexible scheduling is also something many new applicants are looking for, and by being accommodating in that area, you might be able to increase the retention rate.

Your Culture is Unclear or Incompatible

You also have to make sure that you have a clear brand and company culture and that the people you are trying to attract are well aware of it from the minute they see your job listings. This means that you have to sit down and look at who your true core audience are and build your whole image and approach to align with their experience.

If your clinic caters to certain groups, like children or the high-end crowd, you have to make sure that prospective employees know that. Some may not be thrilled to work with children or may not have the decorum or desire to work with the type of crowd you’re trying to accommodate. This is where carefully crafting listings and pre-screening will be very important. This way, you won’t have to waste time interviewing, hiring, and onboarding people who will never be a true match.

As you can see, there are tons of possible reasons why a dental clinic can’t keep top employees. Look to see if you recognise yourself in any of these examples and make corrections immediately if you do.
