What Are Electric Roller Blinds?

Electric roller blinds are very much like the standard roller blinds that you have at home, except where traditional roller blinds are opened and closed by a chain, electric roller blinds are opened and closed via a remote-controlled motor, which lives inside the blind’s roller tube.

Aside from the fact the blind has no chain and has a motor inside it, there aren’t many differences between traditional roller blinds and electric roller blinds, as they’ll mostly use similar fabric and hardware for the rest of the blind.

How Are Electric Blinds Powered?

There are three common ways to power an electric roller blind. The first of which is with a battery, the battery for the blind sits inside the roller tube with the motor, this battery can be charged when needed with a long charging cable. Secondly you have a solar powered option, with a small solar panel that trickle charges the blind, so that it always has power. And finally, you have mains electric powered, where the motor is powered by hooking up to your home’s energy supply.

How Do Electric Roller Blinds Work?

Most electric blinds are controlled with a remote control that the manufacturer supplies, with this remote control you can move the blind upwards and downwards. Some manufacturers will make blinds compatible with smart home devices, but for now the most common control method is remote controls.
