This Tuesday, July 7, opens the trial of Johnny Depp against the English daily newspaper The Sun at the High Court in London. The actor filed a complaint against the tabloid for defamation. They allegedly claimed without proof that he had hit his partner Amber Heard.

Johnny Depp decided to counterattack. For nearly three years now, he has been accused by his ex-wife Amber Heard of having raped her several times. At the time of their breakup, in 2017, the 34-year-old actress had indeed talked about “years of physical and psychological violence.” Facts that the legendary Pirates of the Caribbean Jack Sparrow firmly contests.

This is why he filed a complaint against the daily newspaper The Sun and its owner News Group Newspapers (NGN), to which he accuses of having presented as a proven fact, in an article published in April 2018, that he struck his ex-partner. A trial which opened this Tuesday, July 7 at the High Court in London and which should last nearly two weeks.

Several celebrities are also expected, since Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder, two of the ex-actor of the 57-year-old actor, have agreed to testify in his favor. In written and procedural testimony, the first, who had been in a relationship with the star for 14 years, thus portrayed him as “a nice, attentive, generous and non-violent man and father.” For her part, the star of Stranger Things ensures that he has never been violent with her.

Johnny Depp refused to show certain text messages

Refusing any allegation of defamation, The Sun claims to have based on 14 accusations of violence against Johnny Depp between early 2013 and May 2016. The magazine also tried until the end to reject this complaint, especially in due to a failure of the actor.

In fact, the latter did not comply with an order from the Court, which instructed him to communicate a series of text messages in which he allegedly asked his assistant for drugs. In particular, he asked for “joyful pills” and “white stuff,” which investigators identified as MDMA pills and cocaine, as lawyers for NGN report.

Telephone exchanges which are important since shortly after these messages sent at the end of February, Amber Heard had explained to have lived “a torture of three days of physical aggressions.” It remains to be seen what justice will decide once all the elements of the investigation are in hand.
