Technology is one of the most rapidly advancing industries. Compared to just a few decades ago, the industry has seen rapid developments.
Many of the popular technology devices that are available nowadays were just a dream back in the 70s and 80s. Back when technology was just beginning to take off, it was almost unbelievable that we could listen to music on the go with a Walkman or call a friend from somewhere other than home.
With technology, things come and go before most people can even afford to buy them. Whether it’s a new smartphone or a fancy kitchen gadget, it feels like the next version is out before you’ve managed to get your hands on the current version.
Many old devices are unusable and incompatible with modern-day technology. They end up stored in a box somewhere in the attic or basement for years to come. You eventually have a brutal clear-out and get rid of them but, until then, they are safely tucked away in a corner of your home.
Just because a device is old, doesn’t necessarily mean it should be thrown away. Some old-school pieces of technology have gained value in recent years due to being seen as vintage or retro items.
If you have a box full of old devices and gadgets in your home, it might be worth taking a look at them and seeing which ones are selling for a significant sum.
Here are three old-school electronics that you might currently own or might have previously owned.
Record Player
Record players are old-school music-playing devices that use a synchronous motor to function. They are like the original version of the modern-day iPod.
You can still buy vinyl records nowadays as they have maintained popularity with the younger generation finding them aesthetically pleasing. If you still have your old record player, why not pull it out and play your favorite records?
Walkman
Back in the 1980s, Walkmans were everywhere. They were the new ‘in’ thing and they were revolutionary at the time and have shaped new-generation music in the modern-day.
The Walkman device enabled its users to listen to music on the go, a luxury that had not yet been provided by technology companies. You could play your personal playlist of songs wherever you were heading.
If you’ve still got your Walkman, pull it out of the attic and see if it still works. It will be a great way to reminisce on the good old days. You might still have a few songs on there.
Bakelite Phone
Ask anybody to think of an old school phone and it’s likely that they will immediately think of a Bakelite phone.
The Bakelite phone is something you only see on old television programs now. It’s rarely seen in people’s homes or business offices.
Despite rotary phones being a rarity in the modern-day, they are still highly sought after. The older generation loves their classic and reminiscent feel.
