Divorce is the dissolution of a marriage. The process of divorce can be painful, upsetting, and a massive loss for the partners. However, it’s sometimes necessary due to some influencing factors like domestic violence, irresponsibility, or lack of commitment. It’s such a daunting process that victims can undergo depression, isolation, loneliness, low self-esteem, and psychological distress.

Divorce is more complex and painful for all parties if children are involved, and the young ones get affected the most. Besides the emotional issues, other challenges include settling finances, a shift in responsibility, and single parenting. In this scenario, you may need a divorce attorney to help navigate the process. Let’s go through the common causes of divorce.

    Domestic violence or abuse

Domestic violence is intentional abuse of a partner. It can be sexual, emotional, physical, or economic. Some people are only kind at face value, but once you get married and live under one roof, they turn to something else. Abuse by a partner is painful, it can affect anyone, and nobody wishes to be in such a position. If your once-loving partner turns violent, divorce is the best answer. Yes, they may change or say they want to change but fall back to the same vice after some time. How much of it can you take? Instead of waiting to get hurt or injured in an abusive marriage, the victim should walk away and get a different life.

    Infidelity

Extra-marital affairs turn out as the worst betrayal. It stings so deeply because you’re faithful to someone who doesn’t value you, yet they swore to be loyal to you for life. Although it’s a bitter pill to swallow, the shame of walking away from your marriage is worse. The offense is unforgivable to many. However, others choose to forgive and try to work it out. But can you forgive and forget? If you decide to take the high road of forgiveness, you’ll face trust issues that can complicate your life together. Ultimately, trying to salvage a marriage from infidelity can hurt the faithful partner more. For this reason, some choose to dissolve the marriage and heal alone.

    Too much conflict and arguing

Constant conflict and arguing can cause people to drift into a relationship. Arguments can be bitter and cause people to go for days without speaking. If such situations are rampant, a marriage can slowly turn toxic, and the union ends up dissolved. Your home is supposed to be your haven. But what if it’s the worst place to be? In a healthy marriage, partners long for each other’s company, but it’s the opposite for those in toxic unions.

    Lack of commitment

Commitment in a marriage is a priority for both partners. Unfortunately, laxity or lack of it in one partner can lead to a divorce. The committed partner eventually gets tired, and the marriage will suffer. As a result, two people who started together end up feeling alone in the union, and divorce is their only option. Being single will not affect you if you think you are single in a marriage. A divorce from this perspective is painful, as the committed partner might end the union with the rage of being taken fore-granted.

    Conclusion

Marriage is between two people who love and cherish each other. They’re committed to living together as one until death does them part. However, as challenges arise along the journey, some are easy to tackle while others are impossible. As a result, people drift away. They lose physical and emotional intimacy, which ends in a divorce. If you’re facing any of the above issues or a loved one, get help from a counselor and do what’s best for you.
