Are you ready to ditch the stuffy rules and have some fun out on the course? Sure, scoring par is great and all, but sometimes you need a few rounds of social golf to get everyone laughing.
Take out your clubs, gather up your friends, and discover five fantastic ways to add more fun to your golf game.
1. Wolf
First up is a classic that’s all about brains and a little bit of bravado: The Wolf.
Imagine you’re the alpha of the pack, the one calling the shots. That’s you, the Wolf, on the first tee. You tee off, and then you have a choice: partner up with one of your playing partners after seeing their tee shot, or go it alone against the rest of the group, making you the lone wolf.
But before heading out to the course, learn the rules and how to play wolf in Golf.
The Wolf rotates each hole, giving everyone a chance to be the decision-maker. Points are counted based on the Wolf’s (or the team’s) best ball against the other players’ best ball.
This fun game challenges groups to play strategically, resulting in some impressive plays.
2. Rabbit
Next in line on the tee is The Rabbit, a game that keeps you on your toes until the very end. Think of the Rabbit as a hot potato, but instead of being burned, you accumulate points.
The game starts with a player assigned on the first hole. The winner of the hole gets to retain the Rabbit. The catch? The Rabbit can be swiped!
If someone else wins a subsequent hole, they capture the Rabbit. The game continues in this manner throughout the round, and the individual holding the Rabbit at the 18th hole is the winner.
It’s simple to grasp, but the constant changing of roles ensures a wonderful competitive spirit. Even after a bad round, you can win a hole and boom! You’re back in the running.
3. Scramble
Now, let’s talk about teamwork with the ever-popular Scramble.
This is the perfect game for groups of varying skill levels because it levels the playing field and encourages teamwork. Everyone in the group plays a tee shot, and then you select the best shot. Players take turns from there.
Keep playing until you’ve put the ball in the hole. It’s a great way to save strokes, unwind, and celebrate good shots for one another.
It’s also a wonderful way to learn golf, as well. Scramble is all about having fun and enjoying the round without too much worry about individual play.
4. Nassau
If you like a little head-to-head competition within a large group, Nassau is a classic for a reason. It’s essentially three individual matches rolled into one: the front nine, the back nine, and the whole 18 holes. You can play individual matches between your foursome or team Nassau.
Even if you have a horrible front nine, you still have the potential to win the back nine and the whole thing. It keeps everyone engaged the entire round and provides a level of mini-wins to maintain morale.
5. Ghost
In The Ghost, one player is designated as the “Ghost” for the entire round. The Ghost doesn’t have a real score; instead, the rest of the players are trying to score against the Ghost. You can set the Ghost to have a static score for the hole.
The rest of the players try to beat the Ghost’s score. This is a fun twist because the Ghost player isn’t necessarily playing to win but rather setting a benchmark for the others to reach.
Play a Round Of Social Golf
Whether you’re scheming as the Wolf, chasing the elusive Rabbit, teaming up in a Scramble, battling fiercely in a Nassau, or trying to conquer the Ghost, these games are sure to make memories on the course.
Now get out there and play!
