Helmets aren’t a cheap solution, but they do help prevent life threatening accidents. Helmets offer some protection in most instances, but there are more protective helmets available. Since the rules were changed last year, there’s been an explosion of new, improved helmets on the market. Some of these helmets, however, are a bit pricier than others. Not just helmets but plate carrier vests are also demanding in these days. Here are five reasons to take the time to pick a good, protective helmet.

    More Than Just a Suit

Even with a helmet on, you’re still subject to harmful impacts, and head injuries are among the most dangerous injuries. To decrease the chance of an injury, you should wear a protective suit. This will help protect your neck and head. It will also protect your wrists, elbows, shoulders and more. All of these injuries can cause long term problems such as decreased range of motion, permanent nerve damage or, in rare cases, death. But, if you are not willing to wear suits, ballistic helmets are more than enough to protect your head and neck.

    Greater Resiliency

The weakest points on your body are the head and neck. If a fall happens, the harder you hit your head, the higher the chance of severe injury. Most helmets will not protect your neck, or your head if you’re wearing a neck brace. Your head and neck may also be at increased risk if you don’t wear a helmet. Consider taking a few precautions, and wear a ballistic helmet.

    Better Protection

A better helmet will provide protection from a greater range of impact. While a neck brace will protect your head, it won’t protect you if you hit it on something. A properly fitting ballistic helmet, however, will protect your neck and head in a crash.

    Ahead of the Curve

It’s easy to get frustrated when it’s taken you years to get new helmets, but you have to realize that everyone else is ahead of you. You need to be conscious of what other drivers and cyclists are wearing so that you don’t end up being the odd one out. Helmets have come a long way, and every manufacturer has gone through years of research and development to create a helmet that protects you from as many injuries as possible. Ballistic helmets are one of the newest in demand.

    Safer Rides

The general rule of thumb with car riders, is to not wear a helmet when you’re not cycling, in order to reduce your chances of having an accident. However, when you cycle, wearing a bike helmet can reduce the risk of accidents considerably. If you bike to work, it’s probably much safer to use a helmet. Your brain has less of a chance of going through any kind of trauma if it’s protected.

    More Health Benefits

If you wear a helmet, you’ll also be getting all the added health benefits of wearing one. When you’re wearing a bike helmet, you’ll be doing all the best things to keep your brain healthy. Your head will be supported, and any road rash will be prevented.

    Convenience

You don’t have to wait around for a ride home, or get a lift with a colleague. If you’re cycling to a meeting, or other venue, then it’s much more convenient to use a ballistic helmet. You don’t have to worry about going home and changing out of your cycling gear, you can just do it straight after you get to your meeting.

    Recommendation:

There are a lot of different options when it comes to helmets with a lot of different reasons of using ballistic helmets. It’s difficult to say one brand is better than another. Each brand has something different to offer, and it’s up to you to decide which option you find the most comfortable and effective.
