Her expertise came to the forefront during a major Oracle Fusion migration from E-Business Suite (EBS), where she was designated as the Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) expert. “Working closely with Oracle Integration solution architects gave me first-hand knowledge of OIC’s niche capabilities,” Natarajan reflects. Her work involved linking various cloud and non-cloud applications with Fusion Cloud, utilizing both Oracle’s out-of-the-box adapters and third-party connectors to ensure near real-time services. This deep immersion into OIC’s functionality paved the way for her evolution into an Enterprise Solution Architect, designing intricate integrations that enhanced operational efficiency.
Natarajan’s impact extended beyond technical integration. In a cloud transformation project, she not only mapped the migration roadmap but also established best practices for conversion. “My experience with Oracle Financials in both EBS and Cloud allowed me to efficiently identify and map new solutions to old systems, significantly reducing the discovery phase and turnaround time,” she explains. Her hands-on expertise with OIC enabled her to identify integration points, configure necessary connections, and ensure seamless communication between applications, both internally and externally.
One of the standout projects in her career involved a public works client undergoing a complex split into two entities. While one entity migrated to Oracle Cloud, the other retained its on-premises EBS. Natarajan played a crucial role in implementing Oracle Integration Cloud as the middleware, ensuring that financial data from a multitude of applications flowed seamlessly into Oracle Cloud for reporting and into analytics platforms for research and planning. “The interim bleed-out phase, where the new entity operated on the old instance while sending journal data to the cloud, added another layer of complexity,” she recalls. Her solutions ensured a smooth transition with minimal disruption.
Challenges in such large-scale integrations were inevitable, and Natarajan’s problem-solving prowess shone through. One of the most significant hurdles was interfacing with legacy applications that hadn’t been upgraded in decades. “There were no out-of-the-box or third-party adapters available for some of these applications,” she explains. To tackle this, she devised a workaround where data from these applications was treated as unstructured data, passed through OIC’s document understanding feature, and converted into a format compatible with target systems.
Another major challenge was integrating third-party fintech tools into the cloud landscape while maintaining stringent security protocols. Natarajan leveraged OIC’s access control and data protection features to implement different levels of security depending on the application and data type. “By incorporating encryption protocols and ensuring only valid users and applications had access, we were able to protect sensitive data while ensuring smooth integration,” she adds.
In addition to her hands-on work, Natarajan has contributed to the broader tech community through her publications.
