Sunday, February 12th, 2023, was one of the most memorable sports events in recent American history when Super Bowl LVII took place.
The night was not made memorable only by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes overcoming a first-half injury to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a stirring comeback, becoming the first man since Kurt Warner to win the Super Bowl MVP, NFL MVP, and Super Bowl title in a single season.
Even the most ardent NFL fans could scarcely believe it. Many betting platforms, such as ilotbet, were certainly prepared to pay those who had staked on a win for the Philadelphia Eagles against the Chiefs.
The Super Bowl result seemed to have been decided by the end of the first half before Mahomes inspired his team to victory. The occasion was made much more memorable by the half-time show, a performance staged annually during the interval between the first and second halves of the Super Bowl.
At the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Rihanna made her first major musical appearance in six years as she performed some of her hits for the 60,000-strong fans at the stadium. The 34-year-old mother of one performed for 13 minutes at Super Bowl LVII.
Rihanna performed snippets of 12 songs, including hit tracks such as Bitch Better Have My Money, Run This Town, Work, Only Girl, Umbrella, Rude Boy, and Diamonds, among others.
Rihanna has been noticeably absent from the music scene since 2017, releasing only one single in six years. The Barbadian singer has ventured into other things, most notably her Fenty business, in the last seven years. Rihanna has built up a net worth of around $1.4 billion from her businesses since 2016. She has also started a family with fellow music star ASAP Rocky, with whom she had a child in 2022.
Rihanna appeared on a stage floating above the 50-yard line for her half-time show donning a red outfit. At various points in her performance, she shed or added layers to her outfit but maintained the same overall outlook.
She displayed a conspicuous baby bump, indicating that baby #2 was on the way. During her performance, she also had time for a subtle ad for her Fenty Beauty line as she briefly applied power to her face.
Rihanna’s performance was one of the main attractions for many of the 190 million viewers from all over the world. For many, it was a chance to see the legendary hitmaker in action once again.
Rihanna already turned down a chance to perform at the Super Bowl in 2019 as she did not wish to be embroiled in the NFL’s saga with Colin Kaepernick. By choosing to perform this year, she emulates fellow musical icons Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Justin Timberlake, and many others in performing in front of one of the biggest global audiences. With her second baby on the way, it is improbable that Rihanna will release new songs for her teeming fans.
Her Super Bowl performance, however, proves that she still can pull crowds. Whenever she does decide to return to active music-making, her fans will always be ready for her.
