Your skin is the largest organ in the body, and it can go through many ups and downs throughout your life. It is essential to take care of your skin and look out for issues that signal underlying problems. Skin discoloration or hyperpigmentation is a common issue many people deal with. If you have hyperpigmentation, using the right skin care, such as serum for skin brightening, can be what you need.

    Pregnancy

As an expectant mother awaits the birth of her baby, her body goes through a series of changes. Pregnancy hormones can create skin discoloration. A common skin issue is dark and blotchy patches on the face. Some women develop a dark line from the navel to the pubic area.

    Too Much Sun

The sun is essential for your overall well-being and a healthy dose of natural vitamin D. However, people of all skin tones should use protection from UV rays. Too much sun exposure can discolor the skin and increase the possibility of cancer or damage. Some people may develop sunspots or hyperpigmentation in exposed areas.

    Poor Skin Care

Being harsh with your skin care can create discoloration. Try to focus on non-irritating skin products that are mild. Avoid the harsher chemicals that are too abrasive. You should also be careful with the amount of pressure you apply when washing the face. The discoloration may show up because of damage and pressure on your skin.

    Allergies

Allergies are the immune system’s response to a foreign substance. Allergies can show up in breathing issues, nausea, or skin flare-ups. Skin allergic responses can be in the form of itchy patches, hives, or skin discoloration. The skin discoloration can vary depending on one’s ethnic group. In other words, some people’s skin discoloration may appear reddish, and for others, it may appear more purple. Getting to the root of such allergies can help reduce occurrences. However, a topical treatment can help treat skin discoloration and reduce its appearance.

    Trauma

A bump, fall, or injury can quickly discolor the skin. If the skin has been traumatized by a bruise, blister, or burn, it often results in the skin darkening as it heals. Some people may have very sensitive skin that can easily bruise.

    Medical Issues

If you have easy skin bruising or unexplained hyperpigmentation, it can be related to an underlying medical condition. Medical conditions such as Graves’ disease, diabetes, or lupus can create skin issues. For diabetics, darker skin may show up around the neck.

Psoriasis may also show in scaly and discolored skin patches anywhere on the body. With rosacea, the skin discoloration usually appears reddish, and may also be accompanied by bumps, pimples, and thickened skin.

    Cancer

Unfortunately, skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the United States. Luckily, it’s also highly treatable and preventable. One of the most common forms of skin cancer may show up in a mole, such as melanoma. Sometimes skin cancer may show up in changes in the skin color in patches. Look out for moles that may change in color.

People should care for their skin inside and out. From a healthy diet to proper hydration to proper skin care products, you can keep your skin looking healthy and supple. Skin discoloration can happen for various reasons. It may result from too much sun exposure, being harsh on your skin, hormone fluctuations, or a symptom of an underlying illness. Pay attention to your body so you know how to handle skin issues.
