Based in Baltimore, Maryland, Charles Nabit is a community-focused entrepreneur and commercial real estate investor who serves as managing partner of Westport Group. He previously led one of the country’s largest providers of services for people with developmental disabilities.

In 1992, he launched the private Nabit Foundation to facilitate charitable giving to community organizations, with a focus on charitable causes in healthcare, education, and arts and culture. In addition, he has served on the boards of several Baltimore area institutions, including the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital (UMCH), Walters Art Museum, B&O Railroad Museum, and the Hippodrome Foundation (HFI).

    UMCH

Charles Nabit is proud to support UMCH, which has provided compassionate, family-centered care to pediatric patients for more than 75 years. UMCH has consistently been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the premier children’s hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery, and it is also responsible for many medical advancements in pediatrics. The hospital opened Maryland’s first neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in 1977 and now operates the largest Level 4 NICU in the state. UMCH was also the first hospital in Maryland to use STEM cells and the first to perform heart and lung transplants for pediatric patients.

    Walters Art Museum

The Walters Art Museum, located in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood, is one of the United States’ preeminent public cultural institutions. It houses more than 36,000 culturally significant pieces of work, ranging from ancient Roman sarcophagi and Gospel books to 19th-century French paintings, in its five historic buildings. The museum offers free admission and organizes a variety of community celebrations and public education programs, including a 10-week photography course for teens and field trips for local schools.

    B&O Railroad Museum

Celebrating the birthplace of American railroading, this museum is located on the site where the first mile of commercial railroad was constructed in the United States. It honors the remarkable achievements, stories, and history of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad—the oldest railroad in the US, dating back to the 1820s—and its significance to national history. Considered one of the most significant railroad collections in the world, the museum has more than a dozen exhibitions showcasing the first American locomotives, World War II troop cars, other rolling stock from the 19th and 20th centuries, thousands of artifacts, and multiple historic buildings. Guided tours and train rides are available. In 2027, the museum will celebrate the B&O Railroad’s bicentennial.

HFI and Baltimore International College (BIC) Educational Foundation

A proponent of experiential education, Mr. Nabit is also a longtime supporter of HFI and the Baltimore International College (BIC) Educational Foundation.

Since its inception in the early 2000s, HFI has provided performing arts education opportunities and programs to more than 90,000 Maryland students. It arranges student showings of touring Broadway plays and musicals at the 160,000-square-foot France-Merrick Performing Arts Center and hosts virtual and in-person education sessions, allowing students to learn from theater performers, designers, choreographers, and production professionals. Moreover, HFI operates summer camp sessions for middle and high school students.

The BIC Educational Foundation, meanwhile, supports a range of culinary programs in Baltimore and offers scholarships to students pursuing a career in the culinary arts and hospitality. The organization was founded in 2015 and named after the culinary and hospitality management school that served Baltimore and surrounding communities from 1972 to 2012.
