ChatGPT Turned My Audit Into a Payday. IRS Is Pissed.

The letter came in February. “Your 2023 return has been selected for examination.”

IRS audit. The two words that destroy lives.

They claimed I owed $23,000. Had 30 days to respond.

Instead of hiring a $500/hour tax attorney, I fed everything to ChatGPT.

What ChatGPT software  found: IRS owed ME $47,000.

Check arrived yesterday. Photo proof below.

The IRS agent called it “impossible.” My bank account says otherwise.

ChatGPT : The Audit Letter That Started Everything

February 14th. Valentine’s Day. IRS showing love.

“Dear Taxpayer, discrepancies found in your 2023 return:

    • Unreported 1099 income: $67,000
    • Disallowed deductions: $34,000
    • Additional tax owed: $23,000
    • Plus penalties and interest: $31,000 total”

    My options:

    1. Pay immediately
    2. Hire tax attorney ($15K retainer)
    3. Represent myself (suicide)
    4. Try ChatGPT (fuck it)

    Chose option 4.

How ChatGPT Dissected 3 Years of Tax Returns

    Fed ChatGPT everything:

    • 3 years of tax returns
    • Every 1099, W-2, K-1
    • All bank statements
    • Every receipt
    • IRS audit letter

ChatGPT’s first response: “The IRS made 17 calculation errors.”

    What.

    Asked for details. ChatGPT found:

    • Double-counted 1099 (same income, two forms)
    • Missed $34K in quarterly payments I made
    • Ignored carryforward losses from 2021
    • Misclassified business expenses as personal
    • Failed to apply proper depreciation

But then ChatGPT found something huge.

The $47,000 Mistake IRS Made in My Favor

ChatGPT noticed something odd in 2021 returns.

“You qualified for the Recovery Startup Credit but didn’t claim it. The IRS owes you $47,000 plus interest.”

    Recovery Startup Credit:

    • For businesses started after Feb 15, 2020
    • Up to $50K credit available
    • Most people didn’t know about it
    • IRS didn’t advertise it

    ChatGPT calculated:

    • Base credit: $47,000
    • Interest (3 years): $4,200
    • Total owed to me: $51,200

The IRS audit triggered my ability to amend. They played themselves.

The Response Letter ChatGPT Wrote That Shocked the IRS

    ChatGPT drafted my response:

    “Dear Internal Revenue Service,

RE: Audit of 2023 Return – Taxpayer Response and Amended 2021 Return

Thank you for the opportunity to review my tax situation. After careful analysis, I’ve identified the following:

    1. Your calculation errors:
    • Line 14: Double-counted 1099-NEC #4738291 ($67,000)
    • Line 27: Missed quarterly payment 4/15/23 ($8,500)
    • Line 31: Missed quarterly payment 6/15/23 ($8,500)
    • Line 33: Missed quarterly payment 9/15/23 ($8,500)
    • Line 35: Missed quarterly payment 1/15/24 ($8,500)
    1. Corrected tax liability: IRS owes me $3,400 for 2023
    2. Amended 2021 return attached claiming Recovery Startup Credit
    • Credit amount: $47,000
    • Interest owed: $4,200
    • Total refund due: $51,200
    1. Net position: IRS owes taxpayer $54,600

Please process immediately. Supporting documentation attached (247 pages).

    Respectfully, [Me]

P.S. I’ve identified additional errors in your favor that I haven’t claimed. Happy to discuss if you’d like to review those as well.”

    Sent certified mail. Waited.

The IRS Agent Who Couldn’t Believe It

March 20th. Phone call from IRS.

Agent Thompson: “Sir, we’ve reviewed your response.” Me: “And?” Thompson: “How did you find these errors?” Me: “Careful review.” Thompson: “You found mistakes our systems missed.” Me: “Apparently.” Thompson: “The Recovery Credit… how did you know?” Me: “Research.” Thompson: “We… we actually owe you money.” Me: “When can I expect the check?” Thompson: “This is highly unusual.” Me: “Is it wrong?” Thompson: “No… it’s correct. All of it.” Me: “So?” Thompson: “Check will be issued within 45 days.”

The silence before he hung up was delicious.

The Check That Proved ChatGPT Right

    Yesterday. USPS certified mail.

    Department of Treasury check: $47,394.21

[I’d post the photo but legal advised against it]

    Breakdown:

    • Recovery Credit: $47,000
    • Interest: $4,200
    • Minus: 2023 adjustment: $3,805.79
    • Total: $47,394.21

Deposited same day. Cleared this morning.

The IRS paid me to audit me.

    The Next Check Coming: $127,000

    ChatGPT found something else.

2019-2021: Overpaid quarterly estimates IRS never refunded excess With interest: $127,000 owed

Filed claim last week. IRS already responding.

“Sir, these claims go back years…” “The statute hasn’t expired.” “How did you calculate this?” “Very carefully.” “We’ll need to review…” “Take your time. Interest keeps accruing.”

    Check expected in 60 days.

    The Million-Dollar Question

If ChatGPT can beat IRS audits, what else can it beat?

    Currently testing:

    • Insurance claim denials (3 wins so far)
    • Medical billing errors ($18K recovered)
    • Credit card disputes (100% success)
    • Parking tickets (27 dismissed)
    • Utility overcharges ($3,400 back)

The pattern: Any bureaucratic system can be beaten with the right prompt.

My IRS agent called last week: “We know you’re using AI.” “So?” “Just wanted you to know we know.” “Cool. When’s my next check arriving?” Click

The IRS lost to ChatGPT. They’re scared. They should be.

Your audit letter isn’t a threat anymore. It’s an opportunity.

    ChatGPT turned mine into $47,394.21.

    What will yours be worth?
