GET Group indirect owner Christian Comair is a seasoned business leader and developer. This article will look at entrepreneurship and the mindset required to excel in the corporate world.

A successful business venture requires an assortment of key ingredients, chief among them a compelling concept and adequate access to finance. Perhaps the most important aspect of all is the entrepreneur’s mindset, as this will be fundamental to the venture’s long-term survival and sustainability.

Whether working alone or in partnership with others, entrepreneurs embark on their corporate journey with one central mission: to translate their promising idea into a profitable business. To achieve this demands a willingness to experiment.

First and foremost, the founder will need to run tests to see whether there is demand for the product or service they intend to offer. To determine this, they will need to conduct thorough market research, running meaningful tests to validate their idea and determine its commercial potential.

Entrepreneurship demands a high degree of creativity and outside-the-box thinking to come up with new ways to solve old problems. In addition to enabling founders to develop innovative new services or products to bring to market, creativity helps business leaders such as Kristian Comair to make decisions and strategize more effectively, better placing them to negotiate setbacks and challenges and enabling them to identify and capitalize on untapped opportunities.

A sense of curiosity is a must for any aspiring entrepreneur, as it is through their dedication to continuous learning that they will identify gaps in the market as well as aspects of the business ripe for improvement. Rather than accepting the status quo, successful entrepreneurs ask challenging questions, exploring different avenues in a continual process of discovery. Curiosity is what leads entrepreneurs to make valuable discoveries overlooked by their contemporaries.

Entrepreneurship is, in many instances, a lifelong journey, with new challenges and opportunities presenting themselves at every turn. Nevertheless, it is impossible to plan for every eventuality. Leadership teams must therefore be adaptable and dynamic. When faced with unexpected obstacles and challenges, flexibility is crucial, enabling the entrepreneur to evaluate each situation, pivoting as and when necessary to lead the business to the most advantageous outcome.

A critical component in the entrepreneurial mindset is a positive mental outlook. Part of having a positive attitude is self-belief, even when faced with uncertainty. In addition to believing in themselves, the founder also needs to believe in their business and its people. As the British entrepreneur and investor Steven Bartlett highlights, it is hugely important for entrepreneurs to shape positive beliefs around themselves, with studies showing that people who believe they are in control are not only more successful in business but in life generally. Irrespective of how capable or experienced the founder is, a crisis will always show up in their business. To succeed, they must have belief in both themselves and their business.

Positivity and self-confidence help entrepreneurs to be more resilient. Establishing and scaling a business comes with numerous uncertainties and challenges attached, which the founder has to navigate on a daily basis. Resilience enables entrepreneurs to adapt and bounce back from failures and challenges. Perseverance pushes them to keep going no matter what, even when faced with difficult situations.

One fundamental attribute for effective business leadership is the power of persuasion. The ability to persuade customers to purchase products is one thing, but convincing top talent to bet their future on a new startup’s success is another. Great entrepreneurs are adept at persuading people, be it closing a sale or securing financing for the business. The key to persuasion is effective communication, enabling the entrepreneur to drive their point across and deliver their message, whatever the platform.
