Ever since they came out, video games have been very popular. People around the world love immersing themselves in digital games and taking part in races, exploring new worlds, defeating bosses and so on. For several decades, video games could only be played on dedicated consoles and handheld gaming consoles. Over the last two decades, mobile technology has become increasingly advanced and thanks to this, mobile games have become exceptionally popular.

    How Big Is Mobile Gaming?

It’s estimated that over 90% of the world’s population owns a mobile phone. While some units are more advanced than others, a large percentage of them are capable of running modern mobile-friendly games. Mobile phone usage has grown steadily year-on-year, with more and more people getting themselves a phone not just for making calls, but for all sorts of purposes.

When it comes to gaming, smartphone gaming is already taking up a large chunk of the worldwide gaming industry. In 2022, roughly 45% of all gaming revenue was derived from games played on smartphones. This is a figure that has been steadily increasing over the years. Consoles and handheld gaming devices still make up the bulk of the gaming industry’s revenue. It will be interesting to see whether smartphone gaming will become the biggest earner in years to come, or whether traditional gaming will maintain its position at the top.

Why Is Mobile Gaming So Big?

Mobile gaming is huge because it’s so convenient and has so much to offer. With a smartphone, you can play games whenever and wherever you like. You’re not restricted to just playing at home as you are with console gaming. Smartphones are also smaller and easier to carry around than handheld gaming consoles.

Then there’s internet connectivity. With your smartphone, you have access to countless games that can be streamed through the internet or downloaded onto your phone. The range of games you can play on the go with your mobile is endless. Mobile games aren’t in the same league as proper, full-length video games for consoles, mainly because they’re designed for quick play and short gaming periods. However, the quality of them is still very high.

Many people who don’t necessarily have proper consoles enjoy mobile gaming. They like how convenient it is and how you can play in short bursts without having to invest hours and hours.

    What About Online Casino Games?

We’ve been talking about video games, but we’ll also quickly mention online casino games. These have been getting played a lot more on smartphones in recent years. People can easily access online casinos and play slots, table games and even live dealer games while out and about. What makes casino games appealing is the fact that you can win real money while playing them, though only if you’re lucky enough.

    Summary

As technology advances, mobile games will surely become more sophisticated and even more compelling. It’s clear to see why people are flocking to mobile games – they’re sure to become even more popular in years to come.
