Since ancient times, troops used to wear some form of body armor to protect themselves against swords during the war. Now also advanced forms of body armors exist in line with the advanced weaponry used today. Body armor is a name given to all the various types of protective materials that are worn for protection against threats and attacks. These armors are manufactured using high-quality materials to contain the impact of bullets and other weapons.

Military personnel wear these to protect themselves against such threats. But now, even civilians need body armor to protect themselves, as street crimes, abductions, murders, and other such foul threats are on the rise.

So donning on protective gear can help both militaries as well as civilians against such problems. But what is the difference between civilian body armor and military body armor? Continue reading to learn all about it.

    Military body armor

Military body armor has features that make it more durable against the various weaponry out there. Moreover, it also provides more coverage to protect the vital parts of the body. Ballistic protection can be further added to the bulletproof body armor to safeguard the neck, cervix, groin, and other areas.

In addition to this, military body armor is available in different protection levels. There are two types of bulletproof armor, solid and soft. The soft body armor offers protection against incapable guns, while the solid armor safeguards against rifles, high caliber revolvers, and multiple shots.

The armors are given numerical ranking depending upon the level of strength they offer.

    1)       Level 2a

It is the weakest armor, which will only defend against 9mm ammunition.

    2)       Level 2

This is a little better than level 2a armor, even though level 2 also cannot contain shots bigger than 9mm.

    3)       Level 3a

With Level 3a, you can get protection against attacks up to .44 magnum ammunition and below.

    4)       Level 3

Level 3 body armor utilizes high-quality materials that provide defense against shots of 7.62 mm fired by registered NATO firearms. It is a hard body armor that consists of ballistic plates which can be used invests.

    5)       Level 4

You get the most powerful strength level with Level 4 body armor.

    Civilian body armor

Civilians usually need soft body armor. The soft body armor consists of Kevlar that defends against bullets and strikes. Some areas do not even permit the use of professional body armor. The two levels of  body armor of protections for civilians include:

    1)       Level 2a

Level 2a body armor gives minimum protection. It will protect the wearer against 9mm ammunition.

    2)       Level 3

Level 3 body armor provides the most protection, and it can withstand shots of 7.62 mm fired by registered NATO firearms. It is usually used by military or law enforcement officials. For civilians, it will be necessary to get a legal permit to use it.

    In Conclusion

Body armors are available for both militaries as well as civilians. Civilians need it more now due to the growing threats of murder, street crimes, robbery, and other crimes nowadays. The materials used for making military armor are of high quality and strong such as metallic plates.

While for civilians, the armors are less strong as they use layers of Kevlar, fabric, or leather in them. Hard armor is usually used by the military, where multiple shots are anticipated. But for civilians, soft body armor will work in safeguarding them against the everyday perils.
