Google and other major search engines update their algorithm regularly for different purposes. The first and main purpose of Google algorithm update is to improve user experience. Google is committed to provide best answers to its users’ questions. To do so, Google uses a very complicated algorithm in order to get data from the search index and comes back to the user with the best answer as earliest as possible. To improve the search results, Google would update its algorithm in terms of speed, intelligence, relevance and accuracy.

How does the Google algorithm work?

The short answer is; it is unknown. Google would never reveal it, as it is obviously a commercial secret! On top of that, the beauty of Google search algorithm is that no one knows how it works, so all market participants would try their best to work with Google’s guidelines for the purpose of getting higher ranks, leading to a constant improvement on websites’ services to the users.

However, like mentioned above, there are many rules, guidelines and standards by which market participants are able to improve their performance in terms of user experience, so they will be spotted by Google and ranked higher.

Why does Google update its algorithm?

Like mentioned above, the main purpose is to enhance user experience by providing the best possible answer to every single query. Therefore, Google updates its algorithm to make it more intelligent in order to not only respond to users’ needs as perfectly as possible, but also spot the spams and remove them from the search results. What we mean by spams is pretty much the black hat tactics! Google is very sensitive about the black hat SEO. Therefore, one of the main reasons that Google updates its algorithm in terms of intelligence, is to spot the websites that use such techniques.

Black Hat SEO and Google algorithm

Black hat SEO is pretty much about creating unreal traffic for a website in order to mislead the search engines. There are many tactics and techniques to deceit search engines and obviously they are all against Google’s guidelines and regulations. To specify more, think of a very informative and reliable website that is well-optimized in terms of SEO and in compliance with all Google’s regulations. This website will most likely rank high on Google search results and consequently, users will enjoy a quality and ethical service through that website. In contrast, think of a website with not much quality content or appropriate services that uses black hat SEO techniques to rank high. Even though such a website might rank high in the short run, what value would be added to users who enter into that website? Almost nothing! Therefore, users start to lose their trust on Google, as a low quality website is ranking high on Google and makes them waste their time by exploring through that website with almost no achievement! That would explain Google’s sensitivity on black hat SEO websites or spams!

Google Algorithm updates and Black Hat SEO

Black hat SEO is against Google’s reputation and trustworthiness. Google is severely sensitive to it, so one of the main reasons that Google updates its algorithm is to spot websites who are using such illegal shortcuts to rank high on Google. As Black SEO techniques become smarter, Google makes its algorithm, through the updates, more intelligent to spot them and take them out! Even though such shortcuts and spams might be working for a short period of time, they will most likely be spotted in the long run.

How Google penalizes Black Hat SEO

Search engines in general and Google in particular are getting better every day at spotting websites practicing black hat SEO. It is almost impossible to use such techniques without being caught. Google would penalize such websites by taking them down temporarily until the issue is fixed. However, the risk of losing a website’s rank permanently is still considerable! The penalty can include some more serious actions such as blocking the website from the search engine results. Under all specified circumstances, the website’s reputation and traffic will dramatically decrease and what else? Say hello to the end!

    Final words

If you are a business owner, never consider black hat SEO! You may get some results soon by utilizing Black Hat SEO, but at the end of the day, you will end up with waste of time and money and also a damaged SEO. What you need to do is to work with a professional SEO company to put a comprehensive White Hat SEO plan in compliance with Google’s regulation, together and stick to the plan. On top of that, you must be patient and persistent to work on your plan until good results start to be shown.
