It’s no secret that posting on social media as a business is a great way to grow your following, engage your audience, and ultimately sell more products / services. But, the question is: how often should you be posting?

For example, what would be worse? Posting too much or indeed not enough?

Read on and we’ll tell you all you need to know…

How often should you post on social media in 2023?

How often you should post on social media all comes down to which platforms you are actually using. What is true for Facebook for example is not true for TikTok – and so on.

    • Facebook = at least 1 or 2 times a day.
    • TikTok = at least 2 or 3 times a week.

It can also vary depending on the industry you are in and your ideal target audience. If you are targeting an older audience for example who perhaps spend less time on social media, you don’t always need to be active. Instead, you should find the ideal days and times when they are most likely to be active and make sure you are publishing during those times.

The point is, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to publishing on social media. You need to do your research and discover what works best for you.

It’s also a matter of trial and error as well. You could follow the ‘recommended guidelines’ and post twice a day on Facebook, but if you find that you aren’t getting much engagement, then doing so could be a waste of time and resources that would be best spent elsewhere – such as working on your email marketing campaign or publishing blog content.

What is worse: posting too much Vs. not enough?

This all depends on the quality of the content that you are posting. For example, if you are posting twice a day on Facebook but the content isn’t especially very good or is 90% promotional, then you are going to put your audience off.

Nobody wants to follow a brand that is constantly posting promotional content with very little else in the way of engaging or informational posts.

On the other hand, rarely posting – even if the quality of content is far superior to most of your competitors – you’re going to struggle to keep your audience engaged.

The trick is to find the balance.

So in conclusion, posting too much or not posting enough can be equally damaging to your brand and business.

Use a social media content publishing calendar

What is arguably the best approach to mastering social media for your business is to utilise a social media content publishing calendar. There are many different tools so do some digging and see which tool best suits you.

    That way you can:

    • Stay organised and on track.
    • Maintain consistency.
    • Keep your audience engaged.
    • Stay up-to-date with current trends.
    • Identify gaps in your content.
    • Provide visibility for all of the necessary departments.
    • Know when to curate content and when to create.
    • And so much more.

The solution: Hire a social media marketing agency

Another viable solution to finding the right balance when posting on social media is to simply outsource these needs to the experts.

Again, determining which platforms to use, where your audience spends most of their time, and what frequency you should be posting at is very time and resource intensive. However, with a professional social media marketing agency behind you, you’ll be able to enjoy the best results without ever having to lift a finger!

Just as you’d hire an accountant to handle the books, outsourcing your digital marketing needs to the pros is a great way to free you up with more precious time to focus on managing your business and catering to your growing customer base.
