The VA uses these materials to decide whether the veteran is eligible and what their rating should be (from 0 to 100 percent). This rating also gives the amount of monthly compensation payable to a veteran.

    If a claim is denied or the rating given is lower to a veteran’s expectation, then one can appeal at VA level or federal courts. This appeals process may be either time-consuming or complicated and may often demand the services of a lawyer.

    Some of the most frequently recognized conditions include:

    Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Ongoing and post-war mental health problems including post traumatic stress disorder.

    Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs): Brain injuries which may cause disabling physical and mental changes.

    Hearing Loss and Tinnitus: Climax usually resulting from noise-related diseases.

    Agent Orange-Related Illnesses: Illness resulting from exposure to toxic substances when participating in peacekeeping missions or as part of operations in certain countries.
