Just like your shoes, your car tires wear out with time. The wear rate depends on how often you drive, the distances you’ve covered, and most importantly, the terrain where you drive your car. If you’re always driving on rough roads, then you should be ready to change your tires every other time. Tire maintenance is a topic that’s often ignored when talking about auto maintenance, but it’s a vital aspect that determines the overall condition of your car.

Tires are the ones enabling the mobility of your car, and if they’re in bad shape, then you’ll have a problem in braking and steering your car.

The following are some regular maintenance tips:

    Check the Pressure Regularly

For long-lasting tires, you need to maintain the correct tire pressure. When the pressure is not enough, there’s increased stopping distance, which increases the rate of wear on the brake pads. Keep checking your tire pressure every time before you ignite your car and even more frequently during the winter months. The proper pressure also reduces the chances of blow-out that could even lead to more severe problems.

The right pressure improves your car’s fuel economy giving you more miles per gallon. Thus you’ve more gas money in your pocket. When you have the right tire pressure, precious resources are conserved, and less pollutants are released into the environment.

    Some Visual Inspection

Once in a while, you should take time and check through your car tires for fractures, uneven wear that could lead to alignment issues. If the tires are low on pressure, check for any damage to the tires. Search for screws, nails, and other debris that could be stuck in the thread and check for sidewalls for bubbling or corroded rubber. If you feel the tires are irreparable, it may be time to order a new set. Sometimes, the bolts that hold the tire may be lost, which could mean an accident. Thus you should check through to ensure they are tightly fixed.

    Tire Rotation

When all tires remain in the same position, you may have some wearing out faster than others. For instance, if a car is a front-wheel drive, the front tires will tend to wear out easily. Therefore, you should rotate the tires every 10,000 miles so that they wear out uniformly. That will give you ample time to get a new set.

    Keep the Tires Aligned

Misaligned tires wear out easily, and you have a bumpy ride. It will cause uneven tread or wear in the front or rear, and you need to see a reputable tire repair shop for alignment. It helps save driving, reduces stress and strain on the car’s suspension components, and significantly increases handling. Wheel alignment should be done periodically, approximately after every 6000 miles.

Your car tires are not something you can ignore, and any minor fracture or wear could lead to a serious accident. That’s why you need to constantly inspect them and visit professional Menomonie tire shops regularly for maintenance. That way, you can be sure no emergencies on the road and your repair costs reduce significantly.
