One of the most essential recruiting tools, skills testing software has proven to be an effective technology partner for recruiters around the world. Many organisations – big and small – use and benefit from skills assessments and this testing software. Recruiters often use it in parallel with recruitment software during the hiring process.

The need for skills testing in recruitment

So, how effective is it in helping recruiters test all the applicants? Does it really provide a good look at the candidate’s skills and aptitude? What kind of tests do the skills testing software offer recruiters?

During the talent sourcing process, recruiters come across hundreds of good candidates using recruitment software. But a recruiter is aiming to find the most suitable candidate rather than a good applicant. Because the recruiter understands that employers want an individual who will fit into the role and requirements of the job.

Skills testing software is utilised for this purpose – to determine which of the good applications yields a suitable candidate. Skill assessment will measure each applicant’s skill level as well as their potential and strengths.

Interviews are often lacking when it comes to demonstrating the talents and suitability of job applicants. One interview, or even a couple of them, can never match the substance of a professionally prepared skills assessment test.

Skills testing software: Easy, convenient and effective

Primarily, the software is easy to use and offers many different advantages to its users. It is also very effective. It is worth mentioning again that it makes a great collaborator to the recruitment agency software which recruiters use to streamline and improve their entire hiring process.

Good skills testing software solutions in the market offer a variety of tests. Some of the most popular ones are –

    •          Literacy

    •          Numeracy

    •          Accounting

    •          Data entry

    •          Typing

    •          Psychometric

    •          MS Office

These are designed to provide three levels – basic, intermediate and advanced – to match the needs of the role and test the aptitude of the individual. The software is easy enough to use. Choose the appropriate test or tests and then send them to the candidate. It’s made convenient to send the test link via the skills testing software and can be sent to an individual or a group of applicants at once.

Online skills testing has made assessing candidates much more convenient for recruiters. They can take the test from anywhere. All they need is a computer device and a good internet connection. There is also the convenience of taking a short practice test to observe how the test is structured.

And once the assessment is completed, the result is made available to the recruiter immediately. This test result gives the recruiter a competitive edge over their rivals who do not resort to skills assessment when filtering candidates.

The grades mark an individual’s performance highlighting their strengths. At the same time, it also shows how they place against a group and where their potential and aptitude lies.

These tests are a great way to understand which of the candidate shines most in a crowd. If a group of applicants have similar qualifications and experiences, the test results can act as an additional boost.

These pre-employment skills tests are beneficial to everyone. The recruiters have a competitive advantage over their rivals. Employers can use the results to make better hiring decisions. The candidates have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and aptitude.
