There is a lot of stress involved with selling a home. First, you’ll have to consider what features to market in the listing. You will also have to determine the best price to sell your home. This step won’t be difficult if you work with a top-rated real estate agent. But of all the things you’ll have to do to get your home ready to sell, making it look good is one of the most important. Are you thinking about painting your home’s exterior or interior to get it ready to sell? Here are some tips to keep in mind when painting your home so that you can move it off the market as quickly as possible.

    Exterior

One of the essential parts of your home is the exterior. If this part of the house isn’t appealing, chances are, potential buyers won’t even enter your house. So, it is a good idea to make the right color choices. Here are some great options to choose from for significant parts of your exterior.

    Main Door

The front door is a significant part of your home. Historically, the color of your front door symbolized something. For instance, in Biblical times, a red door meant protection. In Scotland, painting your door red typically meant you paid your mortgage off completely. During American colonial times, a red door indicated that travelers were welcome to spend the night. Needless to say, red front doors are still a popular color choice for homes even today. Some other popular options include orange, brown, black, blue, and wood grain. So, if you want to spruce up your exterior, start by changing the color of your front door.

    Porch

Besides the main door, the porch is another essential part of your house. If you’re lucky to have a concrete or stamped concrete porch, simply cleaning it may be all you need. But you can also add stains to such porches to give them a hit of color and liven up the drab gray color of the concrete. You can use earthy stains such as tans, browns, and terracottas to spruce up your concrete porch. If your porch is wood, it is a good idea to add a fresh coat of paint, especially if your paint is faded or peeling. Some great options include white, off-white, and variations of blue.

    Trim

The overall color scheme of your house will dictate what color you should paint the exterior trim of your home. If your home is painted a darker hue and you want it to stand out, consider going with a lighter trim that is complementary, including white or taupe. On the other hand, if you want your home to remain subtle, consider going darker with deep grays or black.

    Shutters

While there are no definite rules regarding what color you should paint your shutters, it is a good idea to try to match them with your door. Or at least paint them a shade that complements your front door. Consistency is the key when painting your shutters. So decide on a color and stick with it throughout the front and back of the house. Additionally, if you reside in a neighborhood homeowners association, check with them before making any updates to your exterior.

    Interior

While it is critical to paint the exterior of your house an attractive color, it is also a good idea to paint your interior using great color choices, too. After doing so much to impress potential buyers on the outside, you want to keep the momentum going on the inside by choosing colors that also excite them. Here are some choices to keep in mind when painting specific areas of the interior of your home.

    Walls

Walls are the most critical part of the home because they are what most people will see immediately when they enter. Unsightly marks, stains, or other distractions instantly turn a buyer off. Therefore, make sure you put some fresh coats of paint on the wall. While you may have chosen different color schemes for various rooms in your home, when selling your house, it is a good idea to stick with one neutral tone throughout. Providing such a blank canvas allows potential buyers to see the home as their own. One of the most popular color options is white. However, light grays and beiges are also great choices.

    Accent Walls

A solid color throughout is ideal when trying to sell your home. However, if you want to show potential buyers a much more whimsical option, particularly for kitchens or living rooms, then you may consider including an accent wall. Depending on the time of the year that you’re selling, a vibrant accent wall can add a beautiful touch to your home’s decor. Adding an accent wall can be risky, however. So try not to use wallpaper or murals that could be a turn-off for potential buyers. Instead, stick with subtle choices that blend well with the room’s overall color scheme and furniture.

    Interior Doors

Don’t forget about painting interior doors when preparing your home to sell. One of the most popular choices is white. But you can also opt for tans, grays, or beiges. Also, consider incorporating natural woodgrain doors if your home has a farmhouse theme. A stain will help protect the doors while also enhancing the natural wood. Just ensure that the type of wood door you stain can take the stain well. Otherwise, you run the risk of having a blotchy door.

    Trim

When painting the trim for your home, a glossy white is still one of the most popular options. Another good option is cream. If your walls happen to be white, try to choose a wall color that is a slightly darker variation of white so that your bright-colored trim will stand out.

    Ceiling

In most cases, the ceiling will match the color of the walls. But you don’t always have to stick to this norm. One of the most common colors for ceilings is white. But beige and taupe are also good choices. Another thing to keep in mind when painting your ceilings is that the lighter they are, the room feels higher. In contrast, darker ceilings make the room feel lower, creating a cozier feel.

Experimenting with colors for your home may not be the best approach when selling your home. If you are unsure what color schemes are ideal for your local area, you should ask a top-rated real estate agent in your town. Another good option is to hire a professional painting company to help you choose the best shades for the interior and exterior of your home.
