Sniper games have an appeal that goes beyond the action and adventure genre. There is something extremely satisfying about stalking your enemy and taking him out with a well-placed shot to the head or heart. With other games, you need reflexes and button skills to battle your way clear of enemies. In sniper games, you use stealth, smarts, and even creativity to complete your mission. If this type of game sounds like one that you could get into, here are the best sniper games available on YuPlay in no particular order.
Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
Big Boss was a character introduced all the way back in the original Metal Gear. He was the man on the other end of the radio giving orders and suggestions to our hero, Solid Snake. He’s been a part of every Metal Gear game since, including being a terrorist leader and having his DNA used for clones. In Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, he takes a starring role. Waking up after 9 years in a coma, he awakens to take revenge on the people who destroyed his squad. Along the way, he makes allies and additional enemies and takes out a terrorist organization.
This Metal Gear game, like the ones before it, is filled with twists and turns that you probably won’t see coming. As always, the focus of the game is on stealth, and not necessarily action, although there are some big brawls. The original Metal Gear wasn’t a sniper game but revolutionized the stealth genre, and this is a worthy successor.
Star Wars Battlefront II
The original Star Wars Battlefront game was met with mixed reviews. The developers went back to the drawing board, listened to their fans, and produced a great game that is still popular six years later. Star Wars Battlefront II is a war game that manages to give players a little bit of everything.
Sniping isn’t something usually associated with Star Wars with Stormtroopers not able to hit the broad side of a Sandcrawler. However, Battlefront II used it to great effect. You can take control of a “sniper class” character and enter the fray. You have to be careful though. You can inflict great damage from far away, but you will have less stamina and health.
Sniper Elite Franchise
Pick any game of this excellent sniper series and you won’t be disappointed. In the game, you take control of Karl Fairburne, as he navigates battlegrounds during World War II. From Berlin to an island stronghold, to the jungles of Africa, Karl takes on any mission his superiors give to him, and carries them out with deadly precision. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a native German speaker so he can sneak around the enemy territory.
Sniper Elite revolutionized several mechanisms that are common in sniper games today. There’s a bullet cam, which follows the bullet from barrel to body, showing the damage in the aftermath. The character’s heart rate also plays a factor, as do environmental factors such as wind. In Sniper Elite, you almost always want to avoid a face-to-face fight, so you’ll have to use your wits and ingenuity to win the day.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands
Ghost Recon: Wildlands is the 14th game in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series. Prior to its release, the Ghost Recon series was featuring more futuristic settings for the games. However, Wildlands goes back to the timeframe of the original game. Ghost Recon games center around a group of special forces soldiers known as the Ghosts. In this game, the Ghosts head to Bolivia to take out a deadly drug cartel.
The exciting thing about Tom Clancy games is like the books, they try for realism. Your team of Ghosts uses weapons and equipment that the military uses. It has all the specs, so you can choose a weapon that is right for the mission. Unlike the other games in the series, this one features a massive open world, with many types of terrain and environments. There are also several side missions for hours of excitement.
Hitman 2
The Hitman series is the gold standard for assassin games. Take control of Agent 47 as he does the bidding of Providence, a shadowy organization. In this game, his mission is to find and take out “Shadow Client,” who holds the key to destroying Providence. To do this, he takes missions all over the world, eventually leading him to his ultimate target. Along the way, secrets of his past come to light, making him question who he really is.
As Agent 47, you must infiltrate a number of different environments. You are a master at fitting in with any culture and can speak many languages. You can kill many different ways, but it’s always fun to play in Sniper Assassin mode, where you take out targets from afar with increasingly difficult shots.
Stealth, creativity, and ingenuity are 3 talents you must have to succeed at a sniper game. You have to use your smarts to sneak around the enemy and carry out your mission undetected. If you want to give this genre a try, then download any of these games for hours of headshots and silent kills.
