The Resort Group is a luxury resort hospitality company that has pioneered Cape Verde’s tourism industry by creating several 5-star holiday resorts and hotels across the country. Having partnered with world-leading hotel and tour operators, including Meliá Hotels International, the Resort Group has established itself as Cape Verde’s leading 5-star resort development company, in the process pioneering one of the world’s fastest-growing tourism markets.
Completed in May 2011, Meliá Tortuga Beach Resort was The Resort Group’s first development project in Cape Verde. The resort has been recognised with several coveted awards, demonstrating consistently high occupancy levels and enjoying unprecedented success in the industry.
Having opened its doors to the public in November 2014, Meliá Duna Beach Resort and Spa was The Resort Group’s second Cape Verde project. A much larger project than Meliá Tortuga Beach, the resort boasts 1,200 rooms and attracts high occupancy levels, particularly within the all-inclusive family vacation market.
Meliá Llana Beach Resort and Spa and TUI Sensimar Cabo Verde were the first adult-only hotels on Sal Island, with more than 600 suites between them. Opened in December 2016, both resorts feature rejuvenating spa facilities, tropical pools and a stunning range of hotel suites. The resorts enjoy around 945,000 bed nights per year on average, which is set to increase for 2025 and beyond, and currently employ 1,800 staff.
Guests staying at the Resort Group’s locations benefit from access to worldclass on-site medical facilities staffed by experienced medical professionals with decades of experience in various healthcare settings. Dedicated to providing comprehensive medical care, medical services staff help to ensure that guests can fully enjoy their vacation experience without worry, with the clinic strategically located within the resort, staffed by highly qualified healthcare professionals and equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities. One of the unique advantages of the resort clinic lies in its personalised approach to healthcare, ensuring that each and every guest receives individualised attention. The clinic is staffed by experienced medical professionals who are not only experts in their respective fields but also understand the importance of ensuring guests feel comfortable and supported at all times. The clinic offers a wide range of services, providing prompt consultations, check-ups and in-room medical care, with its qualified medical staff providing support 24/7, including ambulance services. Maintaining a robust inventory of medical supplies, equipment and medicines, the clinic is capable of handling a variety of situations swiftly and efficiently, working with international medical insurance and partnering with local hospitals and specialists to reassure all guests that their health is a top priority.
Established by Rob Jarrett in 2007, the Resort Group was launched with the mission of putting Cape Verde on the map by opening the world’s eyes to the islands’ outstanding natural beauty. Mr Jarrett recognised all too well the potential of Cape Verde as a thriving tourist destination. In 2009, he partnered with Meliá Hotels International, agreeing to manage their resorts on Sal Island.
In 2017, Mr Jarret and The Resort Group – working through The Cape Verde Foundation –donated medical equipment to Hospital Agostinho Neto, highlighting the commitment of The Resort Group to support the healthcare system in Cape Verde.
Arriving safely on the archipelago in a 40-foot container, this equipment was sourced from the United Kingdom and was worth approximately £270,000. Destined to be distributed to central and region hospitals across the country, it formed part of an ongoing project to improve the health of all Cape Verdeans while also supporting the health sector.
In addition to its own integrated medical services and its donation drive for much-needed medical equipment for local hospitals, The Resort Group has also enjoyed welcoming trainee healthcare professionals to its resorts, where they can complete work experience placements at clinics and hospitals across the islands while also enjoying a restful haven.
The Resort Group has gone from strength to strength, rising to new heights in Cape Verde and beyond. It has been the proud recipient of several prestigious industry awards, with its first resort ranked as the Leading Hotel in Cape Verde at the World Travel Awards. The Resort Group has also picked up Best Lifestyle Resort Worldwide at the Hotel of the Year Awards and won a Special Double Winners Badge at the Luxury Travel Guide Awards.
