As cities become digital ecosystems, the unseen infrastructure making this happen is coming out of the shadows: private 5G networks. From smart public safety systems to real-time traffic management and emergency response, private 5G is emerging as the enabler of safer, smarter city living.

At the forefront of this shift is Rahul Bangera, Director of 5G Solution Architecture & Product Management at NTT DATA. With over a decade of experience in wireless innovation, Rahul has pioneered the design and deployment of secure, high-performance private wireless networks for smart cities. His leadership has been instrumental in turning visionary use cases into live deployments—most notably in Brownsville and Las Vegas, where private 5G now supports critical public infrastructure and citizen services.

Rahul’s background features a successful stint as Director of Wireless Technology at Communication Technology Services (CTS), where he helped establish and grow the private wireless business from ground zero. He currently oversees the global product strategy and solution architecture for private LTE and 5G solutions at NTT DATA, with a strong emphasis on secure-by-design frameworks. His solutions extend beyond connectivity to drive quantifiable results from public safety improvements to operational efficiency and energy conservation.

What distinguishes Rahul is his capacity to combine technical complexity with strategic vision. He has designed end-to-end private wireless systems that incorporate edge computing, artificial intelligence, and digital twin platforms to provide real-time intelligent decision-making for city functions. His secure network designs provide resiliency and data protection at each layer ranging from the radio access network to the cloud edge and private core.

In Las Vegas, the network deployment by his team facilitates real-time monitoring, remote connectivity for students, and accelerated emergency response. In Brownsville, the network enables intelligent transportation, public safety projects, and infrastructure monitoring—showing how private 5G can power city-wide transformation when purposefully created.

Rahul’s work is also marked by his contributions towards defining business operations in the background. He has spearheaded the development of scalable product roadmaps, defined pricing and deployment models, and developed high-performing deal desks that enable speed to value for cities and businesses. His work has won him numerous awards, including the President’s Excellence Award and the Beast mode Award for strategic innovation and execution at CTS.

Identified as a subject matter expert for smart cities private wireless, Rahul actively writes whitepapers and develops strategic frameworks. He imagines the next evolution of cities driven by private 5G providing AI-based traffic control, city-scale sensor networks, and autonomous public transit.

“Smart cities require quiet infrastructure—tech that doesn’t become a showpiece, but which provides quantifiable improvements to efficiency, security, and quality of life of citizens he explains. “Private 5G is that quiet network.” His work is a testament of dedication, hard work and consistency.

Rahul Bangera’s contribution is forging the cities of the future—networks that are not merely intelligent and scalable but founded on security, privacy, and performance. With private 5G coming out of the shadows, it is visionaries such as Rahul who are making it realize its potential: a safer, smarter, and more connected tomorrow.
