Hair transplant is one of the best solutions to hair loss, often in the form of Androgenetic Alopecia, or genetic hair loss. It is the best treatment used to restore bald spots and correct the hairline when performed by experts. During this procedure, healthy hair follicles are extracted from the back of the head, also known as the safe donor area, and transplanted to the recipient balding side of the head. Since both the donor area and the recipient area are on the patient’s head, it doesn’t cause any infections or side-effects, thereby leaving natural-looking results, even after it being an outpatient procedure.

What are the Types of Hair Transplant?

Hair Transplant Surgery is performed into two techniques, among several others. They are – Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) and the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT, also known as the Linear Excision Method).

In the former, individual hair follicle units are directly taken from the donor area using a round low-RPM low-torque punch device and then implanted to the incisions pre-made to the recipient site, leaving no linear scar in the process. In the latter, however, a strip of healthy hair-bearing scalp is extracted from the donor site, following which the area is stitched to a Trichofiblic closure. The strip of the scalp is then slivered to follicular graft units, which are then implanted to the recipient site. This entire process leaves a scar at the back of the head that can be hidden with SMP (scalp micropigmentation) or, you can leave it there till the natural hair growth hides the scar with time.

The entire process is performed under local anaesthesia and is an outpatient procedure, which means that the patient can go back home once the surgery is complete. During the first consultation at the best hair transplant clinic in India, the professionals take the patient through a Trichoscopy analysis that determines the number of grafts present on the scalp, the number of which can be taken out as safe donor grafts, the area to be covered with the procedure, and the grafts required to reach the desired results.

In between all of this, however, patients are often sceptical about the recovery period after their surgery and how soon will they be able to resume their daily activities without tampering with the results. Well, let’s find out!

The Recovery Period Post Hair Transplant Surgery

As you wait for the hair transplant results in India, the recovery period is crucial and depends on several factors that include the quality of the treatment and the consultation with the professionals. Some of the most important things that you would have to note about this recovery period involve:

    1. Taking Time off Work: Depending on the treatment technique undergone by the patient, the time to be taken off work would differ. If you have undergone an FUE procedure, which is a less-invasive option, you might be able to resume work in no time as it has a faster healing process. However, after a FUT procedure, you might have to stay at home for a longer period. Nonetheless, it is advised by professionals to take at least a week off from work and stay at home, following the instructions of the experts to speed the process.
    1. Exercising: Similar to what you would’ve to do after any surgery, even after a hair transplant, you have to avoid exercising for some time. This saves from exerting any unwanted extra pressure on the body or sweating after undergoing surgery. If you are looking forward to a faster recovery time, the ideal time you need to wait before jumping back to exercising (non-strenuous, preferably) will be 72 hours. Having said that, you must always contact the professionals who performed the surgery to be sure of the exact period.

What is the Recovery Timeline Like Post Hair Transplant Surgery?

Once the surgery is over, you will be able to see the new hairline, and while it might not be aesthetically pleasing, you would see scabbing around the grafts newly transplanted. These scabbing marks are nothing small incisions that are to heal within a few weeks. At around 2 or 3 weeks after the surgery, you would see hair falling out. Don’t start panicking at this because this is a natural process after transplantation called the ‘shock loss’ or ‘shedding phase,’ after which hair will go back to its natural growth cycle.

The follicles fallen would get replaced with the new hair soon, and you will start seeing results. On average, every month, hair grows around 1 centimetre, and so, if you have undergone a hair transplant for a larger area, visible effective results might take some time to show up. Typically, you may be able to see the final results within 8 to 12 months of the surgery. Once you have fully recovered from the hair transplant surgery in India, you are allowed to trim or dye the new hair as you would. As you keep maintaining your hair for a longer time, in some time, people who have previously seen you with thinning or balding would eventually even forget you were ever that person.

Always remember, however, that you would have to consult the best hair transplant clinic in India when it comes to such aesthetic surgeries because it ends up leaving an impact on the way you look. Saraswat Hospital is one such ethical and safe hair transplant clinic run by two of the most reputable doctors in the country, Dr Satya Kumar Saraswat (Gold Medalist Plastic Surgeon) and Dr Preeti Saraswat (Clinical Cosmetologist).

Both the doctors have over 17 years of experience in the field and are certified by several international boards such as the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), ensuring that they stay updated with modern developments. The hospital is staffed with the best after-care team of experts who guide every patient through a customized treatment plan and recovery period.

In conclusion, the recovery period post hair transplant surgery is crucial for every patient, should you want the best results in a short period.
