    What is the USMLE?

    Let’s begin with the basics: what is the USMLE exam all about? It is a three-step examination, and I must say, a rigorous assessment of your medical skills. It tests whether you are capable of offering safe and effective care to the patients and citizens of the United States. The USMLE exam eligibility is basic- you need to be in the second year of your MBBS program (or above), or have completed your medical graduation.

    USMLE Exam Steps

    The USMLE exam consists of three major steps, which are explained below-

    • Nutrition

    USMLE Step 2 CK

    Key Disciplines:

    • Behavioural Health
    • Cardiovascular System
    • Immune System
    • Musculoskeletal System
    • Respiratory System
    • Blood & Lymphoreticular Systems
    • Nervous System & Special Senses
    • Skin & Subcutaneous Tissue

    Three Main Components:

    • Integrated Clinical Encounter
    • Communication and Interpretation
    • Spoken and Written English Proficiency

    USMLE Step 3

    The final step tests whether you are ready to practice medicine without supervision. It is divided into two parts-

    1. Fundamentals of Independent Practice
    2. Advanced Clinical Medicine

    The exam consists of MCQs and computer-based case simulations (CCS) that test your ability to manage real-life clinical scenarios.

    USMLE Passing Scores

    The acceptable passing scores for the different USMLE exams are as mentioned below-

    • Step 1: Pass/Fail (no numerical score)
    • Step 2 CK: Minimum Passing Score – 214
    • Step 3: Minimum Passing Score – 200
