A good internet speed for gaming ensures low latency, which improves gameplay through quick data transfer and response times. Professional gamers, iGaming enthusiasts, and streamers rely on faster internet speeds to achieve their goals. Read on!

    Good Internet Speed for Gaming

    Gaming CategoryIdeal Internet Speed Range
    Casual Gaming3-10 Mbps
    Competitive Gaming25-50 Mbps
    MMORPGs10-25 Mbps
    FPS (First-Person Shooters)25-50 Mbps
MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena)10-25 Mbps
    iGaming/Casino Games5-10 Mbps
    Cloud Gaming50-100 Mbps

There is no “single” answer to this question of “what is good internet speed for gaming.” As you can see from the table, different gaming categories require different ranges of internet speed. For instance, first-person shooters like Call of Duty, Counterstrike, and related games require a minimum of 25 Mbps for smooth gameplay.

MOBA has a minimum internet speed requirement of 10 Mbps, and iGaming enthusiasts must have at least 5 Mbps to play online slot and table games. However, some platforms like Lana Casino have live dealer games, which require a higher internet speed for low-latency gameplay. So, this is due to:

    ·         Real-time streaming

    ·         Low latency requirements

    ·         Multiple data streams

    ·         HD graphics

“If you play live dealer games, make sure you have a minimum internet speed of 15 Mbps.”

How to Decrease Latency When Playing Online Games?

    ·         Optimize Router Settings

    ·         Use Ethernet

    ·         Close Background Apps

    ·         Choose Closer Servers

    ·         Reduce Graphics Settings

    Optimize Router Settings

Gaming is the future of entertainment due to technological advancements, immersive environments, interactivity, diverse content, accessibility, and interactivity. However, you may not make the most of your gaming journey if you have a slow internet connection. Therefore, it is important to reduce latency rates, especially when playing online games.

One way to do it is by optimizing router settings. Make sure you have a router that supports dual-band Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. In addition, place or install the router in a central location and ensure no walls or furniture around it.

Enable “Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)” to allow your computer or gaming devices to communicate more efficiently with the router. Activate QoS (Quality of Service) to prioritize online gaming traffic over others. Thus, this allows you to experience smoother gameplay. You can also benefit from MU-MIMO to allocate more bandwidth to gaming.

    Use Ethernet

I prefer the ethernet over Wi-Fi because it ensures higher data transfer rates with more optimized and consistent speeds. Remember, gaming, particularly iGaming, considers every millisecond when transferring data. Therefore, an ethernet connection ensures faster response times and smoother gameplay.

    Close Background Apps

Closing background apps means saving bandwidth data packets and allocating them to online gaming. I won’t discuss why closing background apps is essential. Instead, I will tell you how to do it:

    1.        Open Settings

    2.      Navigate to Apps

    3.      Select the App you want to close

    4.      Access Advanced Options

    5.      Disable Background Apps Permissions

In addition, you can optimize the “power and battery” settings to manage background app activities. Go to the “Power and Battery Settings,” view detailed info, then click “manage background activity.” Under “Background Apps Permissions,” choose “Never” to prevent apps from running in the background and utilizing the bandwidth.

    Choose Closer Servers

Choose a game server closer to your location and can lower latency. If you have an option to choose the server manually, make sure you select it closer to your region to minimize data transfer time. You can use a VPN to streamline this process. However, make sure you avoid a free VPN because this can cause server connectivity problems.

    Reduce Graphics Settings

Reduce in-game graphics, including texture quality, resolution, anti-aliasing, and shadow quality, to improve FPS and reduce input lag. Turn off “VSync” to reduce input lag by desynchronizing the game FPS to the refresh rate of your monitor. Instead of playing in Windows mode, use the full-screen mode to improve gameplay.
