Sometimes it’s not easy finding a job, especially one you really want. There always seems to be a lot of competition out there when you apply, with potentially hundreds of candidates all applying for the same position. It can be a real challenge and at times it can even become demoralising.

Knowing that finding satisfying employment can be a tough job in itself, what can you do to make it a little easier and swing the balance of favour in your direction?

Let’s look at some tips and ideas to give yourself some advantages and a greater chance of landing the job you really want.

Decide What Job Or Industry You Want To Work In

If you’re just looking for a temporary survival job, then this won’t really matter much, but if you’re hoping to get a position in an industry that interests you, first work out what that industry actually is. It could be that you’ll have several fields or job positions that take your fancy.

At the very least, once you’ve nailed this down, you’ll have a direction to travel in and a more defined goal to work towards.

Do You Have the Necessary Experience Or Qualifications?

Now that you’ve settled on a job or two that you’d like to get, do you meet the requirements to become employed in this field? Are there specific qualifications or training you’ll need to acquire? Have you had any previous experience working that type of job?

If you need to undertake training to land the job you want, then that will have to be the next step in the process.

If it’s just a matter of lacking hands-on experience to be considered, then the next tip might help

Be Prepared To Do Unpaid Work Experience

One way you can gain experience and learn some skills in your chosen field of interest is to do unpaid work experience for an employer so you can learn the ropes. This way, there is no financial risk for the employer putting someone on who lacks experience and it becomes a trade-off where you donate your time and they donate some on-the-job training in return.

It’s a win-win situation for everyone and you just might impress the employer that much that they take you on a full time, with pay.

Search for Businesses Online and Email Them

You know what type of job you’re looking for and if you’ve got credentials and experience covered, it’s now a matter of finding businesses and companies in that industry and expressing interest to them.

You don’t always have to wait for a job vacancy to become available and then apply along with everyone else. You can jump the queue and chase up your own job.

Search online for businesses in your chosen industry and shoot them an email. Keep the message brief and concise, but just explain you’re looking for work and that you’re interested in any positions that become available. Ask if it would be okay for you to send through a resume for them to keep on file, along with your contact details.

Even if there are currently no vacant positions, when one does come up, you’ll have a better chance of being first in the door when it does.

Enlist the Help of Professional Employment Services

Professional employment services can really help you shortcut the process, as well as offering you extra assistance and the benefit of their industry contacts. Whether it’s a privately run employment agency, a recruitment firm for a specific industry, or a government-funded agency, you’ll gain the advantage of professional help while searching for the job you want.

If you’re currently unemployed and receiving a Centrelink payment, you may be eligible for assistance from a Jobactive provider. These employment agencies work in conjunction with Centrelink and offer assistance on every level, to give you the best chance of landing a good job. They can even help out with things like updating your skills, assistance with writing your resume, and lining up job interviews for current positions.

    In Conclusion

Follow the tips in this article to give yourself a better chance of finding the right job for yourself and don’t be afraid to seek the help and assistance of professional services.
