Expecting your first child can be an absolute roller coaster of emotions. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, do not fear. The internet is full of helpful advice; plus, you can buy or borrow plenty of parenting books to help educate yourself. However, for the immediate, read on for five ways you can get prepared for your baby’s birth so that when the time arrives, you can focus on enjoying the little things.

Be Fully in the Know about What to Expect

Firstly, if you’re early into your pregnancy, you may want to consider having a dating scan ultrasound. Not only will you get to hear your baby’s heartbeat, which is a magical moment in itself, but it can also let you know how many features there are and the size, which in the early stages can help you determine when the baby will be born. With this information, you’ll have a better idea of how long you have to prep and who for.

    Prepare Meals

One of the simplest things you can do that your future self will thank you for is premade meals popped in the freezer. Once the baby comes, you are bound to be tied up taking care of their needs your own can often be put on the back burner. So ensuring you can have a ton of healthy meals ready to go in the freezer is a life-saver. Being able to eat healthy during the postpartum will help you to recover quicker.

    Buy All The Extras Now

Another thing that’s good to do before the baby arrives is buying all the extra bits you need. Make a list or look online for a printable list detailing all the items you will need. You won’t need one of every gadget on the market, but you will need some things. Think big things like a car seat, a crib, or a changing table. These are all items you may want to put up beforehand to check they’re working well and be safe for you and the baby. Also, think of small items such as nappies, baby wipes, and plenty of baby grows. Having most of what you need will give you peace of mind.

As well as the bits you’ll need for the baby, it’s also worthwhile to stock up on some household essentials. Think toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and bath items. That last thing you want is to finally get a window for a hot shower and find you’ve got no shampoo.

    Get the Nursery Ready

Before your newborn arrives, it’s also worthwhile getting your house ready. Having a nursery ready is optimal. This creates a place of sanctuary for you and your baby. Ensure all baby items you’ve bought are unboxed and homed, ready to be used. You may also want to add some babyproofing measures. Although you won’t need them for some time (unless you have other children), it’s something you can cross off the list and get some before your attention is pulled in other directions.

    Take Time for Yourself

The final and most important thing you can do is take some time for yourself. Having a baby can be hard work physically and mentally, so before that bundle of joy comes and demands lots of your attention, do some things you enjoy. Take a peaceful moment to read a book or go out with your loved ones for dinner or even a weekend away. Making the most of your time before the baby comes will leave you feeling ready and refreshed, ready for your next chapter.
