Do you love theme park adventures? Consider flying to Abu Dhabi and experience the best amusement parks in the UAE.
Yes, the world has many exceptional theme parks, but Abu Dhabi, specifically Yas Island Abu Dhabi, has more than its fair share. For one, it has the world’s fastest roller coaster.
Ticking that off your bucket list should already be worth the trip, but that’s not all Yas Island offers. After riding the fastest rollercoaster in the world, get on the tallest non-inverted rollercoaster loop. You can also look forward to a rollercoaster with 17 airtime moments and one zero-gravity flip, a six-person tornado water coaster, and the world’s biggest indoor flight chamber.
Excited yet? Here are the top five things to look forward to on your grand Abu Dhabi amusement park adventure.
1. The World’s Fastest Roller Coaster
First Stop: Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is a primarily indoor theme park; the massive rollercoasters sit outside the air-conditioned complex. It’s one of the most iconic buildings in Yas Island Abu Dhabi. Make sure to find a good vantage point from which you can see the theme park’s red roof and the largest Ferrari logo in the world.
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has the world’s fastest roller coaster: the Formula Rossa. Strap yourself into a sleek, Ferrari-themed coaster car and feel your anticipation build as you wait for the engine to start. Hear your heart pound as the coaster moves and finally accelerates at 149 miles per hour (240 kilometers per hour) in less than 5 seconds and lets you experience 4.8 Gs, similar to the g-forces professional race car drivers feel when cornering on racetracks.
2. The World’s Tallest Non-Inverted Rollercoaster Loop
While at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi for the Formula Rossa, you should, of course, take the time to try every ride and experience in the theme park. In particular, don’t forget the Flying Aces.
Flying Aces is a military biplane-inspired ride where you’ll sit with your feet hanging down. That’s right! It has no floor, enhancing the feeling of flight, so wear closed (i.e., closed-in) shoes that fit snugly and won’t get dislodged as the rollercoaster flings you around.
It’s not as fast as Formula Rossa, with its top speed of 74.6 mph (120kph), but it holds the record for the tallest non-inverted rollercoaster loop. Try it and find out how exhilarating it feels as it climbs to a height of 63 meters at a 51-degree incline.
3. The World’s First Zero-Gravity Flip-Out on a Rollercoaster
Second Stop: SeaWorld Abu Dhabi
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is the newest Yas Island attraction and the Middle East’s first marine life theme park. It offers interactive experiences, animal encounters, and one exhilarating addition: one of the region’s most thrilling rollercoasters.
It’s called the Manta Coaster, and it’s spectacular because of its 17 airtime moments. An airtime moment is a negative g-force occurrence. It will make you feel like you’re floating, untethered, on air.
More than that, the Manta Coaster has the world’s first zero-gravity flip-out and twisting double-down dive. You’ll go slowly at first as you go through a bioluminescent tunnel, but the respite won’t last for long. You’ll soon move onto an expansive twisting and turning track that will have you flipping and diving multiple times.
4. The Largest Six-Person Tornado Water Coaster
Third Stop: Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi
Considered one of the best water parks in UAE, Yas Waterworld sits on a 37-acre lot in Yas Island Abu Dhabi. It has over 40 water slides and interactive experiences, including the world’s largest six-person tornado water coaster, Dawwama.
You and up to five others will sit on a flower-shaped inflatable raft and plunge down the height of a mountaintop. Your raft will spin and tumble down a long and massive water slide before the force of the water and the momentum of your descent catapult you into a 20-meter-high tornado funnel.
5. The Biggest Indoor Flight Chamber
Fourth Stop: CLYMB Abu Dhabi
CLYMB Abu Dhabi is a sight to behold and an experience you must not miss when you visit Yas Island Abu Dhabi. The building, with its sharp lines, edges and crevices, was inspired by the UAE’s rugged mountains. It also hints at the adventures waiting within its imposing walls.
CLYMB Abu Dhabi offers two activities: indoor climbing and indoor skydiving. The tallest of its multi-pitch climbing wall, The SUMMYT, soars to 138 feet and is the tallest climbing wall in the region. More remarkably, CLYMB’s indoor skydiving flight chamber, which has 16 fans and is 32 feet wide and 104 feet high, is the world’s tallest and widest flight chamber for indoor skydiving.
