The interior design industry in the UK is large – a fact that should not be a surprise to anyone. As reported by the British Academy of Interior Design (BAID), the industry’s national market size is around £1.5 billion. This figure, though, doesn’t touch the size of the sub-industries that fuel it, from furniture design to plumbing utilities and beyond.
The latter sub-industry is actually vital to the design of bespoke homes, even if not considered particularly important alongside other more common aspects of décor. This is evidenced by the sheer power a designer radiator can have with regard to transforming a space – but how exactly might designer radiators be a key consideration for interior designers?
Efficient Design
Energy and sustainability are major pressure points across industries, and have already been interpolated into design aesthetics and philosophies. Clients and consumers are thinking hard about their energy consumption in the face of climate change, while the costs associated with heating domestic homes have only increased.
Designer radiators are an elegant and efficient solution, taking advantage of new concepts and ideas to provide functional efficiency on a practically tailor-made basis. This is particularly true of vertical radiators, which can occupy smaller spaces and better utilise heat convection to deliver warmth in taller and tighter spaces.
Quality Materials
Designer radiators also have the benefit of quality construction, over conventional radiator options which often use cheaper materials or construction techniques in order to keep costs – commercially and to the consumer – at a minimum. Since designer radiators are able to recoup more from the sales end of the spectrum, they can experiment more with high-performance metals (which can, again, reduce pressure on the heating bill).
Coating and Finish
The base materials used are not the only areas of improvement. Designer radiators also enjoy better finishes, such as high-quality powder coats that confer more than one benefit to living spaces. For one, they are gorgeous to look at, and bring a real tactility to any room. They can carry richer colours, too. From a pragmatic perspective, these coatings can provide better emissivity with regard to heat transfer to open air.
Added Value
Finally, there is the issue of value. Many designer radiator options command a high price, and necessarily so. However, the value does not end with the purchase of the radiator. These high-performance and high-quality units can also contribute somewhat considerably to the value of a home, partly due to their energy efficiency and partly due to their overall value.
