The mascara being sold today has evolved so far from its first invention. Now, consumers can find various mascara waterproof formulas that can curl, lengthen, and volumize simultaneously.

Throughout the years, new and advanced mascara formulations have been introduced to the market. All of those innovations were instrumental in shaping today’s mascara, but a few of them made a big shift that influenced it.

    Clean Mascara

Many traditional mascaras still contain harsh chemicals that can trigger allergic reactions for some people. This is where clean mascara and hypoallergenic waterproof mascara step into the frame as the solution. A clean waterproof mascara is typically formulated without certain ingredients such as parabens, mineral oil, synthetic fragrances or dyes, and carbon black.

These clean mascaras would then substitute those ingredients with skin-friendly alternatives. These can be plant-based ingredients, fruit oils, or beeswax, making it eligible as a hypoallergenic waterproof mascara as well. They’re much gentler on the skin, but can still deliver good performance, rivalling traditional mascaras. For people with sensitive skin or eyes, choosing a clean waterproof mascara is often safer.

    Lengthening Mascara

Mascaras focusing on lengthening are the best innovation ever made for people with shorter eyelashes. Their ingredients can help the product connect better to eyelash tips, making your lashes look longer than they are.

Lengthening mascaras usually come with a tapered, smaller nylon brush. It helps provide better and more accurate application. In addition, the fibres also add more volume while helping the product latch well onto the lashes.

    Volumizing Mascara

When trends started shifting to a more expressive look, volumizing waterproof mascara became a popular choice. Unlike lengthening mascaras, this one typically has a bigger brush with firmer bristles. These applicators can carry more product, so they can coat the lashes with a thicker layer.

On the other hand, the fibres would help provide more thickness and volume to the final result. The volumizing mascara waterproof formulas would contain ingredients such as silicone polymers and waxes, allowing the product to create volume without clumps.

    Curling Mascara

Like its name, a curling mascara eliminates the need to use a lash curler. The ingredients in the formula help keep your lashes flexible and supple throughout the day. Meanwhile, the curved brush will curl and lift the lashes to achieve that perfect, lifted look.

As the product dries on the lashes, it’ll then tighten and keep your lashes looking curled. For people whose natural eyelashes are straight or downward-looking, a curling mascara can usually be a great choice.

    Waterproof Mascara

Traditional mascaras are typically wax-based emulsions rather than purely oil-based. Because they are not designed to resist moisture, they can smudge or break down when exposed to water, leading to clumping or uneven wear. A mascara waterproof, on the other hand, is formulated with water-resistant film-forming agents and waxes that help them stay in place. Silicones may also be included to enhance durability and smudge resistance.

Mascara waterproof products can still smudge when they’re exposed to oils. Because it’s water-resistant, it’s usually harder to take off and, if not properly cleansed, might leave residue that can clog your pores.
