Does your loved one need additional care? Choosing to move them into a care home isn’t easy, but it’s often necessary. After all, they can receive the care they need at all hours of the day while living there. Many care homes offer a highly enjoyable lifestyle with exciting and relaxing activities.

Of course, you can’t choose the first care home you come across without a second thought. You want them to be safe, comfortable, secure, and happy. If you’re looking for a care home in London, here’s what you should consider.

    The Location

The first thing you need to think about is the location. London’s a big city, after all! First, consider the distance between the care home and where you live, as you want easy access to be able to visit your loved one,

It’s not just about the distance, though – also consider the surrounding area. Are there parks nearby? What about the views? If you’re looking for a care home in or near Kingston Upon Thames, Signature Care Home in Kingston works. Not only does it have many transportation links nearby, but it also boasts gorgeous gardens and exquisite views. It’s the type of place your loved one could settle into and enjoy.

    Types of Service

What type of care does your loved one need? This should be a considerable factor when choosing a care home in London. Perhaps your loved one only needs a small amount of care – in this case, you may choose a care home that allows for more independence. On the other hand, if your loved one has dementia, you will need to look at care homes that specifically care for dementia patients in a comfortable and dementia-friendly space.

    The Home Itself

Naturally, you’ll want to look closely at the accommodation before moving your loved one in. There’s a lot to consider here. For example, what are the gardens like? Do the rooms have an en suite? Are the furnishings comfortable? Your loved one will call this place home, so you must be sure that the accommodation itself is tip-top.

    CQC Ratings

CQC ratings are created by the Care Quality Commission and are based on care home inspections. There are four distinct ratings, including:

    • Outstanding
    • Good
    • Requires Improvement
    • Inadequate

You want to choose a home with either a good or outstanding rating for your loved one, as that shows that the quality of services is high.

    Activities on Offer

You want your loved one to enjoy a high quality of life, so consider the activities the care home offers. Many care homes have a range of clubs and activities to get stuck into, with some of the best care homes even having on-site cinemas! Your loved one will enjoy their time at the care home much more if there are activities that they enjoy there, whether that’s gardening or painting.

    What Your Loved One Wants

Of course, you also need to consider what your loved one wants. If your loved one has the capacity to make the choice, let them do so with some guidance. After all, it’s your loved one who is going to live there, so they should have as much say as they like.
